This Thanksgiving was the first holiday in our new, blended family, and can I just say... It was PERFECT!! Hands-down the best Thanksgiving I have ever been a part of. Everything from the food to the company was absolutely phenomenal, and I couldn't be more grateful for my life right now if I tried.
J's parents came into town to Spend Turkey Day with us (they live in Moxee, WA). This was their first time meeting my daughters, and that went really well. My children were charming and adorable as usual, and won their hearts over in no time. MY parents also came over for dinner, which made me happy in a way I can't properly describe. So J's parents got to meet them as well, and that was just a great. My parents really like his folks, and vice-versa. Even our dads, who are generally both quiet and non-talkative with a hint of social awkwardness got along really well. They have a lot of things in common and were chatting away for a good hour before dinner was ready. Watching them was both amusing and heart-warming.
The food, once everything was done cooking and served up, was absolutely fantastic.
Out menu included Turkey (courtesy of J and myself), Ham (courtesy of my step-mom Dianna), Cranberry Sauce (Me and Dianna each made some), Stuffing (Jason), Broccoli Souffle (Jason), Green Bean Casserole (Dianna), Mashed Potatoes (Yours Truly), King's Hawaiian Rolls (Walmart), and Gravy (Jason). Not just any gravy, mind you... this was the absolute best, most DELICIOUS gravy I have ever had in my life. I was literally eating it by the spoonful before dinner was officially served.
This holiday marked the first of many. many more to come for J and I, and I can't wait to see how the rest of them go. I am so grateful and full of love and joy right now.

Willing Suspension of Disbelief
So last night J and I went to Scarywood Haunted Nights. Not familiar with that name? No worries, I gotcha covered - just go here here: http://www.scarywoodhaunt.com
What did I think of the adventure, you ask? Well I'm glad you asked, because I thought it was fifty shades of freaking AWESOME!! From the zombie riddled train ride to the horrific cannibalism-themed haunted house, I loved it. I spanned the whole spectrum from mildly startled, to majorly creeped out, to "Oh my God this is SO SCARY - why didn't I wear my brown pants?!"
J had a great time too. He thought most of the attractions were cool, and I'd say that made up for about 10% of his enjoyment. The other 90% of his kicks came from watching me LOSING MY MIND from fear.
HE wasn't scared of much there, because he knew that none of it - zombies and chainsaw wielding psycho's included - was actually real. He was amused by the fact that I actually believed there was danger, that the zombie hissing 2 inches away from my face really was going to eat me. I did my best on the post-midnight ride home to explain that I have what I've always referred to as 'willing suspension of disbelief'. That basically means that, while I know in my mind that the monsters and other things going bump in the night aren't real, I can put that knowledge on hold - back burner it, if you will - and I can let myself believe that all of those thing are real, VERY real, and that they are all out to get me. That's why I get so into movies and such. And that's why I lost my voice screaming last night. The fact is, I'm exactly the kind of person that these places want to have as a patron; the kind of person who starts screaming at the beginning of the haunted house, and doesn't stop until I'm safely out the other side.
It was definitely a great night for me and my honey, I can totally see myself going back to that in the future. Bravo Scarywood, bravo!

Catching Up - Part 2
A lot has gone on since I last posted in here. So much to tell but so little to say... I'm not sure where to begin, so I'll just jump into the big news. I am moving!!
Yes, after a year and 7 months in the 2 bedroom apartment that was my first dwelling after my divorce, I am now moving into a house in Airway Heights. Why Airway Heights, you ask? Well the fact of the matter is that I have found love again. Real, true, beautiful love that has enriched me and my life in so many ways for the last year and a half. And my love happens to live in Airway Heights. Not my ideal location for a forever home, but I'd move to the edge of the world to be with this guy, so Airway Heights is a pretty good deal.
The guy in question (let's call him 'J') is, in short, the most wonderful man I have ever met in my life. I could spend several paragraphs giving you all of the reasons WHY he's the most wonderful man I've ever met, but for the sake of time and my fingers I'll just sum it up thusly: I have found the person that God and the Universe designed just for me. Does that make me the luckiest girl I know? You bet your sweet a** it does!
So things have been absolutely wonderful for the last year and a half, and J and I have only fallen more and more in love, and we have decided to co-habitate as the next step in our relationship. What about M1 and M2 you ask? Don't worry, they are completely happy and excited that the 50% of the time they spend with me will now be spent with me, J, J's dog Gracie and my cat Oscar. They both understand that Mommy and J are together and in love, and they know that the four of us (six, counting the furries) are family.
The big move is coming up - 4 days from now on September 10th, and I couldn't be more excited about getting everything over here and unpacked and put away. The few things I have brought to J's house already - books, shoe rack, clothes, have already been integrated nicely. Oscar has also been brought over, and the meet and greet between cat and dog was completely without problem. It turns out that the 4 1/2 lb little girl dog is the butch, and the 9 lb big boy cat is the bitch. Who would have thought?
I have to go now... My first self-appointed task in my new home is to bake a pie, and if the smells drifting in here from the kitchen are any indication, it should be just about done. Take care, one and all. I shall post again after the move is complete.

Catching Up - Part 1
Okay, it is now almost 1/4 of the way through the new year, and it is about damn time I start writing in this blog again. What is the point of having it if I don't?
SOOOOO much has happened in my life in the last year-plus that there really is no good way to go about getting you up to speed. I figure that if there is no good place to start I can just start anywhere, so that's what I'm going to do. That being said, welcome to a new segment I like to call "Catching Up"!
I have a cat. His name is Oscar.
The HR manager at my company found a stray mama cat and kittens last fall, and she decided to take them in and find homes for them. I opted to take the only male kitten, and I named him Oscar after Maron's favorite book, 'Oscar and the Moon Cats'.

This is Oscar
This is the rest of him.
He was about 4 1/2 months old when I brought him home. He's now 9 months old, and he is gigantic. He is super cute, super soft, and he is a super mama's boy. (Honestly, he's SO clingy! If he was a boyfriend I'd have broken up with him by now.) He follows me to and fro over every inch of the apartment, and he is especially fond of falling over right in front of my feet as I'm walking down the 2 steps from the entryway to the kitchen. And if I sit down for more than 3 nanoseconds, Oscar is RIGHT THERE, going for my lap or my shoulder or both (because let's face it - he's big enough). He is a super sweet cat, and he has shown nothing but love and infinite tolerance for my kids, who love to pet him and pick him up ineffectively (he's so big they can't get their little arms around him properly). I am terribly fond of this little (huge) guy, and the fact that he came into my life when and how he did just shows, once more, that the Universe knows what it's doing far better than I do.
Thus ends Part 1 of Catching Up.
I have my own place. Half the time it's me and the girls, and the other half of the time it's just me. But no matter what, there is always, ALWAYS Oscar.

A New Year
See that? I went and had a super-long absence from this blog again. What the hell Micah?
I have lots of excuses... busy life, exhaustion, so much going on that I don't know where to start... but really, excuses are all they are.
It's 2016 now. A new year, and a new chance to improve upon myself and my life. I have lots talk about, but my motivation to set time aside to sit down and write has been overpowered by exhaustion and, let's face it, flat out laziness, But I shall do better! And I'll make you a promise right now. If the Seahawks win their next playoff game today (you HAVE heard that they're on the road to the Superbowl again, haven't you?), I promise that I will sit down and do a proper life update on this blog within the following 48 hours. How's that for a slice of fried gold?
Of course, if the worst should happen and the Hawks leave Carolina in defeat this afternoon, there's no telling WHEN you will hear from me again. So keep your fingers crossed, yeah?

Checking In
I have been neglecting this blog again, though at least it hasn't been that long of an absence this time. And contrary to what you might think, I haven't been avoiding posting here because I have nothing to write about. Quite the opposite, actually.... you see, there has been SO MUCH going on in my life for the last 9 months that I hardly know where to begin. Ups, downs, diagonals - every day and week and month of my life. Sometime all in the same day, sometimes in the same damn hour. I shall endeavor to do better going forward, and as I have the time and the confidence to write about my life, I promise I will slowly but surely get the blog-o-sphere up to date on everything that has happened/is happening/will happen in my life. Fair?

New Home
It's been almost 2 weeks now since I've moved into my apartment, and I have to say that I am really enjoying it here.
The last time I lived on my own, the Twin Towers were still standing, and you could still take pocket knives and lighters onto airplanes.
It's so much different being on my own... I forgot what it's like to experience real, honest solitude. It's so much different than the lives I've lived for the last twelve and a half years. I have experienced peace, quiet, a little bit of loneliness, but mostly gratitude. I am grateful that I have the means to live on my own and support myself. I am grateful that I have found a wonderful place to live, and I'm very much looking forward to having my girls over here for the first time. That will effectively end the peace and solitude, but in the most wonderful way. I'm not quite ready to house them yet, but by next weekend I will be prepared to have my girls over here and to make them comfortable and safe.
